Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Digital Asset Manager and Collections Assistant to join our team. This entry-level position is ideal for a recent graduate with a degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field, and with some experience working in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions. The role will focus on managing and maintaining our growing digital collection and supporting the accessioning, cataloging, and preservation of digital and physical assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup, configuration, and management of the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system.
- Accession, catalog, and manage digital assets, including images, videos, documents, audio files, and 3D models, following established metadata standards.
- Digitize physical collection items by scanning, photographing, or converting them into digital formats while ensuring high-quality preservation standards.
- Enter and update metadata for digital assets in the DAM system, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to controlled vocabularies and best practices.
- Support the development and implementation of digital preservation strategies, including regular backups, format migration, and monitoring the integrity of digital files.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and other staff to create and manage digital content for online exhibitions, educational programs, and public engagement.
- Assist in training staff and volunteers on DAM usage, metadata entry, and digital preservation practices.
- Respond to internal and external requests for digital assets, ensuring compliance with copyright and usage guidelines.
- Help develop documentation and procedures for the accessioning, cataloging, and management of digital and physical assets.
- Conduct regular audits of the digital collection to identify gaps, improve metadata quality, and ensure proper digital asset organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Library and Information Science, or a related field.
- Experience working in museums, galleries, or cultural institutions, particularly in collections management, digital curation, or archiving.
- Familiarity with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems or content management platforms; experience with metadata standards such as Dublin Core, VRA Core, or similar is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of digital preservation practices and digitization processes.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently on assigned tasks.
- Interest in the intersection of art, commerce, and digital technology.
Preferred Skills:
- Basic knowledge of copyright, intellectual property, and digital rights management.
- Experience with image editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop) and digital imaging equipment.
- Familiarity with creating and managing digital content for online exhibitions or educational programs.
